Our team is comprised of six CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS (CFP®), two Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA), four Certified Public Accountants (CPA) and five Certified Divorce Financial Analysts (CDFA®). We are fully independent in our decision-making and do not receive compensation from anyone but our clients. Judith P. Barnhard, CFP®, CPA, CDFA® is a founding member of MBI, LLC and serves as MBI's Chief Compliance Officer and senior financial and tax advisor. She is a Certified Public Accountant, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional and a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®.

Judy has more than 30 years of professional experience providing services to leading international firms, private industry and local private practice. She specializes in income tax preparation and planning for individuals. She also enjoys meeting with clients and assisting them with their comprehensive financial planning goals.

She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, the Financial Planning Association and the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University.

Judy also volunteers in a leadership capacity for a leading cancer charity. She enjoys horseback riding and traveling.

Debora E. May, CFP®, CPA, CDFA® is a founding member and senior advisor to MBI, LLC. She has 35 years of experience providing comprehensive financial planning and nearly 30 years providing investment advisory services. She has also been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM  professional for over 30 years, and is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®.

Debbie has been recognized by Washingtonian Magazine as a Top Financial Adviser in the metropolitan Washington, DC area in the only ten polls of that nature (October 1994, December 2002, January 2009, November 2012, November 2014, April 2016, February 2018, December 2019, January 2020, and March 2021). In addition, she was named a Top Financial Advisor by Bethesda Magazine in 2022, as well as, recognized as an expert in financial issues arising from divorce in the November 2014 and February 2018 editions. She was also featured in the September 2014 and April 2016 editions of Investor Advisor Magazine.

She has served on many professional boards over the years, including The Maryland Institute of Certified Financial Planners, the Maryland Collaborative Practice Council and the Montgomery County Divorce Roundtable. Debbie has presented many educational programs for industry groups such as the Financial Planning Associations, the Maryland Capital Area CPAs, the Maryland State Bar Association and and the National Area Financial Planning Association.

Debbie is a graduate of the University of Maryland. She enjoys playing golf and visiting her adult children in California.

Jeffrey A. May, CPA is a tax advisor and consultant at MBI, LLC. He has more than 30 years of experience in public accounting. While Jeff enjoys a diverse industry mix of clientele, he is known for his expertise in the professional services, real estate, oil and gas, retail, government contracting and internet commerce industries. He also works closely with not-for-profit organizations, helping them obtain tax exemption, addressing unrelated business income tax complexities, and achieving public support tests.

Jeff is a past president of the Maryland Association of CPAs' Washington Capital Area chapter. He has written many articles on tax-related areas and has appeared on news programs and radio shows regarding tax matters.

He is a graduate of the University of Maryland. He enjoys attending ice hockey games, fishing and playing golf.

Jane Ochsman Rowny, CFP®, CPA, CDFA®, is a senior financial advisor with MBI, LLC with 25 years of professional experience.  She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM  professional, Certified Public Accountant and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®. 

Jane's areas of expertise includes portfolio strategy, asset allocation, investment advice, and comprehensive financial, tax, cash flow and retirement planning. Her goal is to serve the clients’ needs above all else.

She is a member of the Financial Planners Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts and several local professional organizations. She has presented educational programs and published articles on a range of financial topics including retirement assets and tax and cash flow planning.  

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut. She enjoys competitive tennis, trekking in remote mountains, skiing, golf and time with family and friends.

Gregory M, Estes, CFA is a senior portfolio and relationship manager at MBI. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®), one of the industry's highest distinctions in the investment management profession. 

Greg has nearly 30 years of building successful client relationships, managing portfolios, developing client investment strategies, performing equity research and leading compliance-based risk management strategies. He is responsible for overseeing the wealth management goals of MBI's high net worth clients by speaking regularly with individuals and families to cultivate relationships and by providing customized research, analysis and informed guidance aligned with their unique preferences. 

His background includes developing new client relationships, presenting client investment reviews and providing advice to clients on investment policy compliance, performance and capital market outlooks. He earned his Master of Arts degree in Finance from the University of Florida - Gainesville.

Stephanie Anderson, CFA, CFP®, CDFA®, is a manager of divorce financial planning and wealth management with May Barnhard Investments.  She has more than 30 years of experience in the investment management and strategy consulting industries.  Stephanie joined the firm because she is passionate about helping clients make smart financial decisions and confidently navigate all of life’s transitions to achieve their life goals. 

Stephanie has considerable experience working with individuals, couples, and families to manage their finances in a comprehensive, holistic manner throughout their lives—from marriage, starting a family, planning for taxes, preparing for retirement, and estate advisory/legacy planning.  She recently expanded her focus to assist individuals who are contemplating or engaged in a divorce. 

In addition to her expertise in financial planning for families, Stephanie has worked extensively with institutional clients (especially endowments and foundations) and their boards and investment committees to develop investment policy statements that guide the management and oversight of their portfolios.  Further, she has honed her analytical and creative problem-solving skills during numerous engagements as a strategy consultant.

John Comunale, CPA is an auto dealership advisor at MBI, LLC with more than 25 years in public accounting serving numerous businesses in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and Mid-Atlantic region. 

He provides businesses and their owners with audit, accounting, tax and consulting services. John also has developed extensive experience in servicing a wide variety of other industries, including construction contractors, real estate developers and operators. He has handled large and complex dealer groups providing them with consolidated financial reporting and taxation, and multi-state tax services. He has worked on dealership engagements that represent most manufacturers. John has been a lecturer and trainer on various subjects including business taxes, accounting, fraud, and operational issues.

John is treasurer and a member of the board of directors of the Catholic Business Network of Montgomery County and a member of the National Alliance of Auto Dealer Advisors, a national association of CPAs and consulting firms representing over 1,500 dealers nationwide, and AutoDealerCPAs, a national association of CPAs and consulting firms representing numerous dealers nationwide. He is also a board member of the Montgomery County Students Automotive Trades Foundation.

Richard Morris, CPA, MST is an estates and trusts advisor with MBI, LLC. He has extensive involvement in estate, trust, corporate, individual and partnership taxation and planning, including compensation, retirement planning and succession issues.  He holds a Series 65 Securities License and has worked with associations and boards on their investment policies and investment management.

Richard's public experience includes corporate structuring, entity selection, transaction planning and analysis, estate planning and working with closely held and family owned businesses, and their owners and executives. He works very closely with clients who have unusual or complex tax issues that require customized solutions and go beyond general tax compliance. He also has substantial involvement in not-for-profit tax and accounting issues including public and private foundations and unrelated business income tax issues.

He represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service and various states and cities on a variety of issues. He interacts with various levels of government and professional organizations in order to be in the forefront of current and pending tax legislation.

He has been a speaker and instructor to numerous groups, associations and universities on tax, business formation, and real estate issues, and has authored numerous tax articles as well as television and radio. 

Richard is treasurer and a member of the Board of Trustees, Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, DC, a member of the Parish Finance Council at St. Peters in Olney, MD, and a member of the finance committee of the Johns Hopkins Health System. He is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Maryland Association of CPAs and the Greater Washington Society of CPAs.

Josh Hahn is a senior investment analyst with MBI, LLC, CBM’s wealth management subsidiary. He has nearly 10 years of experience providing fixed income and alternative asset investment analysis, asset liability modeling, and risk assurance expertise in the financial services and other industries. His expertise includes facilitating asset security trades and portfolio performance reporting. He has also managed liquidity and cash responsibilities to ensure adequate cashflow needs of clients. 

Josh communicates regularly with clients and team members to review portfolio risks and performance outcomes set against benchmarks, analyzes model equity and fixed income funds for client portfolios and assists in financial planning for clients. In a previous role at a national accounting firm, he demonstrated team management responsibilities by overseeing teams responsible for risk assurance.

Josh has completed the Level I and II exams in pursuit of the chartered financial analyst designation. He is also a certified internal auditor. Finally, he holds a B.B.A. Finance from James Madison University. He volunteers with First Tee, a youth development and empowerment organization that introduces golf to kids and teenagers.

Abbie Niehoff, MPS, CFP®, CDFA®, is a financial planning associate at MBI, LLC with more than six years of professional experience. She works on financial planning for collaborative, mediated, and litigated divorce cases.

Abbie holds her CFP® and CDFA® certifications. She is collaboratively trained and is a trained mediator. She earned her master’s degree in paralegal studies from George Washington University and her Bachelor of Science degree in sociology and anthropology (with a concentration in criminal justice and a minor in psychology) from Towson University.

She presented and published articles on a range of financial topics including collaborative divorce and financial planning for young couples.

In previous roles, she worked as a paralegal for May & Barnhard, a tax and financial consulting firm, and as a legal assistant at Hood & Hodges, a law firm specializing in criminal law, business litigation, personal injury, workers’ compensation, Social Security, medical malpractice, and criminal law.

In her free time, Abbie enjoys spending time with her dog, traveling, and reading books.

Reema Patel, CPA, CFP® is a financial planning associate with MBI, LLC. She has nearly 10 years of experience in public accounting, including former positions at a national firm. Her tax experience includes planning, research, preparation, and other services for individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations. She specializes in audits, reviews, and compilations, focusing primarily on automotive, non-profit, and professional services industries. She is also involved in employee benefit plan audits. 

More recently, Reema has assumed additional leadership responsibilities. She has developed a business plan to deliver financial planning services to Generation X and Y professionals, thereby contributing to a new client model for the future of the firm. She has also participated in the Greater Washington Society of CPA’s Margaret De Boe Leadership Development program to enhance her management development, communication and leadership talents.

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Rutgers University. Lisa Sippel is the operations manager at May Barnhard Investments. She has more than 20 years of operations management and accounting experience, most of which has been spent at Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, of which MBI is a subsidiary. In her most recent role at CBM, she worked as an accounting manager while serving a variety of operational roles throughout the firm. Following a short stint at a DC-area law firm, she returned as MBI’s operations manager, a role in which she will be responsible for ensuring a seamless client experience by providing timely and personalized responses to meet their needs.
